Hanoi is an old city with a thousand year history. Though the ups and downs of many succeeding dynasties, its architecture is rich and multiform. New constructions meddle with old ones but still keep a harmonious and ancient aspect. Nevertheless, actual confused state of construction has sabotaged the overall configuration. The painting describes an old street of Hanoi in the beginning of the XX century. Houses built in the XIX century neighbors with those built in the beginning of the XX century, following the European architectural style.
At the foot of a baniantree stands a small temple. On the road, an engaged group is moving. Firecrackers are blowing at the house the crowd comes.
